Description

Dried Bitter Leaf is a traditional Nigerian seasoning made from carefully harvested mature leaves of the bitterleaf plant (Vernonia amygdalina) that have been washed and sun-dried to retain their authentic flavor and nutritional value. Rich in vitamins A, C, E, calcium, iron, and potassium, as well as bioactive compounds like flavonoids, saponins, and alkaloids, it supports digestive health, immune function, and detoxification properties.

This convenient form offers extended shelf life (6–12 months when stored properly) and eliminates the labor-intensive washing associated with fresh bitter leaf. To use, simply soak the dried leaves in warm water for 10–15 minutes, rinse or squeeze to reduce bitterness, then add to soups or stews toward the end of cooking to preserve nutrients and flavor.

Dried Bitter Leaf is essential in dishes like Nigerian bitterleaf soup (Ofe Onugbu), egusi or ogbono soup with leafy greens, and Cameroonian ndolé. Beyond cooking, it’s also brewed as herbal tea or used in traditional remedies for gastrointestinal issues, fever, liver detox, diabetes support, and more
